Farmers’ leader Rakesh Tikait warns of protests if sugarcane payments are not made

Muzaffarnagar : Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait has issued a warning regarding the demand for sugarcane payments. On Saturday, he stated that if the outstanding payments for sugarcane are not made within 20 days, farmers will start depositing their sugarcane at the district magistrate’s office and seal the factory gates, reports Prabhat Khabar.

He further mentioned that this protest would continue for several days, giving mill a 20-day deadline to make the payments; otherwise, farmers would not supply sugarcane to Bajaj Sugar mill in Budhana Tehsil.

It’s worth noting that there is an ongoing issue of pending payments for sugarcane to farmers in Bhudana Tehsil’s Bajaj Sugar Mill. This has led to a 90-day-long farmers’ protest at the mill gate. During the demonstration on Saturday, a meeting took place at the panchayat site between the mill officials and district administration, where the farmers have given a 20-day time frame to make their payments.
