Farmers shying away from sugarcane cultivation due to closure of sugar mills

Chittoor: According to the news report, the farmers are in no mood for sugarcane cultivation with the closure of cooperative sugar mills at Chittoor and Renigunta. Also, farmers are shying away from cultivation due to pending sugarcane arrears from private mills.

Even as the southwest monsoon has set in over the State, Chittoor district remains parched, taking a toll on agriculture. Water has also remained a major problem for farmers here.

Earlier, MP N Reddappa had stated that the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has accepted the farmers demand to revive the defunct Chittoor Cooperative Sugar factory and Chittoor Dairy. Taking steps in this regard, CM had asked the district collector to prepare a comprehensive report about the revival of the mill.
