Farmers threaten to launch an agitation on August 11 for pending cane dues

Agra: Sugarcane farmers from Muzaffarnagar’s Budhana area have threatened to launch a protest on August 11 demanding pending cane dues, reports The Times of India.

For the last two months, several farmers under the banner of BKU are agitating in front of Bajaj Sugar Mill (Bajaj Hindustan Sugar Ltd) in the Bhaisana area of Budhana. Yogesh Sharma, district president of the BKU said, “Farmers have decided not to supply cane to this mill next season and the government should allot the cane to the sugar mill for farmers.”

District cane officer Sanjay Sisodia said the sugar mill owes dues worth Rs 250 crore to the farmers. We are in touch with the agitating farmers and the mill management to find a way out.”

Around 17,000 farmers in the Budhana area are affected due to delays in cane payment, said Sharma.
