Farmers worry as heavy rain lashes district

Kalaburagi: Farmers are worried as the downpour continues for the consecutive second week in the region.

According to the news report published in Thehindu.com, the district has recorded 327.3 mm rainfall as against the average rainfall of 191.9 mm from June 1 to July 21. The highest rainfall was recorded in Kalagi taluka with 455.3 mm. The taluka receives normal rainfall of 187 mm. Chittaapur taluka received 397 mm rainfall against normal rainfall of 194 mm.

Sharanabasappa Mamshetty, district unit head of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha said, “The incessant rain over the past fortnight has led to damage of the crops in the district. Farmers in Kalagi, Shahabad, and Chincholi and Chittapur talukas will be the severely hit.”

Dharmaraj Sahu, Sugarcane Growers Association, Aland taluka president said if the rainfall continues further crop damage would increase. Yield will also be lower this year owing to damage, he said.
