Fine imposed on sugar wholesale dealers in Pakistan

Sialkot: The demand for the sugar in Pakistan is high due to summer and Ramazan as it is extensively used in the preparation of traditional drinks, juices and other things. To inspect the functioning of sugar sale, Special Checking Teams of the district administration scrutinised Ghalla Mandi in Sialkot on Tuesday. During their inspection, teams found sugar wholesale dealers selling sweetener on higher rates against the fixed official price of Rs 55 per kilogram.

Acting on it, a fine of Rs 250,000 imposed on sugar wholesale dealers.

Assistant Commissioner Sialkot Saeed Ahmed talking to media said, “The government would take strict action against those overcharging consumers.”

Earlier, citizens have expressed wonder over a difference in prices of sugar in Ramazan bazaars than the open market and requested the government to do some serious efforts for ensuring availability of necessary quality things at cheaper rates.

Usually, during the holy month of Ramazan, sugar price inflates, and the government adopts various measure to keep the price under control.
