Goa government floats tender for redevelopment of Sanjivani sugar mill

Panaji: The Goa government has announced the release of the tender for the redevelopment of the Sanjivani Sugar Factory under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme, responding to heightened protests from sugarcane farmers, reported Goemkarponn.

The Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana is slated for redevelopment, intending to establish an ethanol production plant based on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model.

The Directorate of Agriculture (DoA) has initiated the tender process for these projects. Interested parties can submit their applications for Request for Qualification (RFQ) through the eProcurement System (https://eprocure.goa.gov.in/nicgep/app).

Starting from January 10, 2024, the RFQ will be available for download on the eProcure platform. As per the guidelines outlined in the RFQ Document, online submissions must be made by March 1, 2024.

Following a four-day protest by sugarcane farmers at the factory, demonstrators expressing anger over the government’s failure to restart the ethanol plant at Sanjivani Sugar Factory began a demonstration at Azad Maidan on Monday.

Pressed by the irate farmers seeking clarity on the future of Sanjivani, the Chief Minister assured support. Rajendra Desai, president of the Sugarcane Farmers’ Association, emphasized, “We need clear confirmation from the Chief Minister about the commencement of the factory.”
