Goa government sanctions Rs 5.23 crore as support price for cane growers

Panaji, Goa: The sugarcane farmers in Goa will get financial assistance of Rs 5.23 crore from the state government soon. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that it would release funds to the tune of Rs 5.23 crore as support price for the cane growers in the state.

According to the media report, Sawant chaired a high-level meeting, during which approval was granted for release of Rs 1,800 per tonne for sugarcane farmers produce, which will be credited into the farmers accounts in next one-two days; while the balance Rs 600 per tonne towards harvest, will be provided before upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi.

The decision came after the sugarcane cultivators had started an indefinite agitation in front of the Sanjivani sugar mill at Usgao village in North Goa from Wednesday. They withdrew agitation after the CM agreed to meet them.
