Goa: Sugarcane farmers demand resumption of crushing season

Sanguem: Sugarcane cultivators from Goa have demanded the sugarcane crushing resumption in Sanjivani sugar mill. The farmers from Rivona, Maina Pirla, Kavrem, Kevona and Shvsorem villages of Sanguem taluka of the state have blamed the government for delay in starting the defunct sugar mill.

The farmers under the banner of Shetkari Sanghatna are fighting for the commencement of the sugar mill. Bostiao Simoes, a sugarcane cultivator and member of Shetkari Sanghatna has appealed to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar to take immediate steps to put things in place at Sanjivani Sugar Factory. 

The farmers claim that the closure of the sugar mill will not only affect the sugarcane cultivators but will also affect the large number of people that depend on this sugar mill including workers, tractor and truck owners, labourers and drivers.
