Government did not take any initiative to revive closed sugar mills in the state: Congress

Patna: Congress party in Bihar blamed the government under NDA for the bad condition of farmers in the state. The party has stated that not hiking MSP for the sugarcane crop as a major reason for the worsening condition of cane farmers.

Bhakta Charan Das, former union minister and Bihar Congress in-charge who has launched a padayatra in 14 districts and met the party workers and farmers assured them that the party would launch agitation against the government demanding welfare of the farmers and tell them about the ill impact of the new farm laws.

According to newindianexpress.com, Das said MSP of sugarcane has not been revised in Bihar for the past four years. Farmers are getting Rs 310 per quintal for sugarcane as its support price has not been increased in the past four years by the state government. When the input cost is rising, why MSP can’t be hiked?”

“The sugar mills have been closed in the state and the government did not take any initiative to revive them,” he further added.
