Government directs sugar mills to report complete information regarding dispatch of sugar

The government has directed sugar mills to report complete information regarding the dispatch of sugar.

In a communication to sugar mills, the government stated, ‘The Directorate has examined the details of data regarding sale of sugar (HSN code 17011490 and 17019990) submitted by the sugar mills in their GST Returns for the month of November-2023 to January-2024 and observed that the sugar mills are not providing the HSN code wise information of sugar sold during the respective month in the Table-12 of GSTR1.’

According to the government, they are required to mandatorily report HSN codes in Table-12 of GSTR1. Non-submission of this important information in GSTR1 is creating unnecessary hindrance in monitoring the sale of sugar by the sugar mills in the domestic market.

The letter also mentioned that it has been observed that some sugar mills are violating the monthly stockholding limits and deliberately evading reporting actual information in the monthly P-II form through the National Single Window System (NSWS).

‘Under the provisions of Section-5 of the Sugar (Control) Order, 1966 read with Section-3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1965, you are hereby directed to report all necessary information in Table-12 of GSTR1 properly and timely. You are also directed to report correct and factual information in the monthly P-II form on the NSWS portal carefully to avoid mismatching information with GSTR1 data. Non-compliance with these directions will be viewed seriously, and action will be taken under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and the Sugar (Control) Order, 1966,’ the letter further added.”
