Government to review sugar exports after assessing domestic production

The government will take a call next month on allowing more quantities of sugar exports, after assessing domestic production.

According to the various media reports, senior official said, “The crushing operation will come to an end by the next month and the government will review exports after assessing the final production figures.”

The government has allowed export of 6 million tonnes of sugar this year. And in the previous season, India exported a record 11 million tonnes of sugar.

According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association, as many as 528 sugar mills produced 257.6 lakh tonnes of sugar between October and February this season as against 253 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last season
