Administration warns of action if sugar mills fail to clear pending cane dues

Muzaffarnagar: District authorities have warned sugar millers of strict action if they fail to clear the pending cane dues. The district administration has given a deadline of August 31 to the sugar mills.

According to the news agency PTI, District Magistrate Chander Bhushan Singh conducted a review of the cane payment.

Four of the eight sugar mill owners have cleared the dues of the farmers, said R D Trivedi, district cane officer.

Recently, sugarcane Minister Suresh Rana had assured the sugarcane farmers that the government would ensure that the sugar mills clear 100 per cent cane dues before starting the new crushing season.

As per the sugarcane department, sugar mills made the 100 per cent cane payment for the sugarcane season 2019-20. The farmers have received the cane dues despite the low sale of sugar due to lower consumption led by the pandemic.
