Gujarat receives 113.5 per cent of average rainfall

Ahmedabad: Heavy rain continues to wreak havoc in Gujarat. From last few days state has been witnessing heavy to very heavy rains. Due to this grim situation, life has been thrown out of gear in many regions. According to the Skymet weather report, till 5:30 am Ahmedabad has received 68 mm rain, while Veraval recorded 84 mm and Baroda observed 70 mm of rain.

Gujarat received an average rainfall of 113.5 per cent during this monsoon season, with 149 mm in the month of September itself. Light to moderate rain is expected to lash Vadodara, Ahmedabad over the next 24 hours.

IMD issued a red-level warning for Bharuch and Surat for Wednesday. Orange level warnings have also been issued for other parts of the state like Anand, Baroda, Narmada, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad and Tapi. Heavy rains have prompt authorities to put more than 100 dams and reservoirs on high alert.

The heavy rain has disrupted the road traffic as many vital roads are waterlogged following the heavy rain.

In this monsoon season, many have lost their lives to due to rain-related accidents. Not just Gujarat, even other states witnessed the fury of heavy rain. As per reports, more than 1,000 people have lost their lives due to heavy rain and flood across the country. Flood not only claimed lives but it also caused damage to the properties, crops and others worth thousands of crores. Alone in Maharashtra, damages worth rupees 10,000 crore were reported due to the closure of industries, severe damage of crops, and others.
