Haryana cane farmers threaten to agitate for pending cane dues

Ambala: Sugarcane farmers from Naraingarh have decided to launch an agitation for the continuous delay in the cane payment by the sugar mill.

Rajiv Sharma, spokesman, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) said, “After beginning cane crushing season in Last November, the Naraingarh sugar mill has crushed sugarcane worth Rs 105 crore. But the mill has made payments of only Rs 9.45 crore to the cane farmers. As per the law, the mills must clear the cane dues to the farmers within 14 days of crushing their cane but the mill has not followed it.”

Vinod Rana, president, Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti said, “Delay in cane payment has increased the financial hardship of cane farmers. We are left with no option but to agitate for our cane bills.”

Replying to the allegations of the farmers, Narendra Malik, Chief Executive Officer, Naraingarh sugar mill said, “We are doing our best to clear the bills of the sugarcane farmers from the resources available with us.”
