Haryana: Sugar mill starts clearing cane dues of farmers

Yamunanagar: 37 days after the Saraswati Sugar Mills began cane crushing operations, the mill has started clearing the cane bills of the farmers. The mill will clear dues worth Rs 95 crore to the farmers that have supplied cane to the mill till December 21.

According to the TribuneIndia.com, the mill began cane crushing on November 24 and began clearing cane dues after 37 days as the state government had failed to issue a notification for the enhanced price of sugarcane timely.

As per the law, it is mandatory for sugar mills to pay cane farmers their bills within 14 days after they supply cane to the mills for crushing.

D P Singh, senior vice-president (cane) of the mill said, “We have started clearing cane bills of the farmers from Thursday. At the initial phase, we will pay bills of farmers that have supplied cane till December 21.”
