Haryana sugar mills to focus on CNG production

Chandigarh: Sugar mills of Haryana will now focus on the production of CNG along with sugar, reports Amar Ujala.

The mills have decided on the centre’s directions to use biomass as fuel and the instructions issued by the Sugar Federation regarding this.
Sugar mills will be using molasses and press mud, a by-product produced during the sugar manufacturing process for CNG production. Mills have started the process to float tender for this.

As per the estimates, each mill will have to spend Rs 20 crore for setting up a CNG production plant.

Increasing the use of CNG in the industrial sector will lower the use of coal and ultimately result in a reduction in CO2 emissions. All 10 sugar mills in the state will be producing compressed biogas (CBG) to meet the required demand in the state.
