Haryana sugarcane farmers owe dues worth Rs 266 crore: MP Deepender Hooda

Chandigarh: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda said that the sugar mills in the state owe cane dues worth Rs 266 crore for the crushing season 2022-23 till July 17, reports The Indian Express.

The government should ask sugar mills to clear pending cane dues of farmers, he said.

“Delay in cane payment has forced cane farmers to borrow loans to meet their daily needs,” he said.

“Three months have passed since the closure of sugar mills and the government should clear why the farmers have not received cane dues so far,” he asked.

“During congress rule, the government had increased the rate of sugarcane by 165% in nine years, from Rs 117 to Rs 310 but the BJP government has increased the cane price from Rs 310 in 2014 to Rs 362 in 2022-23, an increase by only 17% in nine years,” he said.
