I am confident NSI will play a still bigger role in making Indian Sugar Industry ‘Atmanirbhar’: Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): National Sugar Institute, Kanpur celebrated its 88th Foundation Day today. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Minister of State, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Rural Development was the Chief Guest on this occasion. 

After the welcome speech of Prof. D. Swain, Secretary, Old Boys’ Association, Shri Sanjay Chauhan, Assistant Professor of Sugar Engineering made a presentation about journey of the institute since its inception in 1936 and its contribution in growth and development of the sugar industry not only in the country but various other countries. Students from 30 countries have studied at this institute and more and more countries are looking at the institute for teaching and training purposes, he said.

Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director in his address informed about the future plans as well. Now, we have global presence and so the infrastructural facilities need to be continuously upgraded. We have proposed for a modern 120 room hostel and a dining hall of 250 persons seating capacity complete with modern amenities for better stay facilities. The existing smart classrooms are also to be upgraded, he said.

On this occasion, 06 alumni of the institute who turned “Job Creators” setting up their own enterprises were also felicitated. Besides them, 14 progressive farmers from west, central and east Uttar Pradesh were also felicitated for their exemplary efforts in achieving higher sugarcane productivity through farm mechanization and adoption of newer sugarcane varieties.

I am confident that institute will play a still bigger role in making Indian Sugar Industry “Atmanirbhar”, said Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Minister of State, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Rural Development, while complimenting Institute for its good work. He also complimented the farmers for their efforts and their contribution as “Urjadata”. You are going to be source of inspiration for others as we look for attaining higher per hectare yield of sugarcane to meet our sugar and ethanol requirements in future. 

Citing the awardees, she called upon the students to take advantage of the liberal government policies to set up start ups, develop innovative products and give employment to others.
