IAS officer asks state government to take steps to modernise and revive cooperative sugar mill

Visakhapatnam: Former IAS officer and social activist EAS Sarma asked the state government to take steps to modernise and revive the cooperative sugar mill in Anakapalle.

He said that the expert committee formed to look after the problems of the sugar mills should take steps to revive the mill. The committee is expected to submit its report in two months, but no steps have been taken in this regard so far.

In a representation to Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Rajeev Bhargava, he informed that no one had visited the mill so far. If the government knows the problems faced by the mill, it should place the report in the public domain.

Sarma said the machinery in place in Anakapalle was not being maintained at all and it was likely to become dysfunctional very soon, rendering such valuable investment infructuous.
