Income Tax department attaches Rs 400 crore ‘benami’ properties of BSP chief Mayawati’s brother

Noida: BSP supremo Mayawati’s brother and his wife faced heat from the Income-Tax Department. In its action, IT department attached a ‘benami’ plot worth Rs 400 crore in Noida belonging to them.

According to reports, the attached property was beneficially owned by Anand Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata.

Provisional order for attachment of the 7-acre plot, ‘beneficially owned’ by Anand and his wife Vichiter, was issued on July 16 by the Delhi-based benami prohibition unit of the department.

This action by IT department can have far-reaching political implications on Mayawati. She has recently appointed her brother as national vice president of the BSP.

Since the Modi government came into power, many actions were initiated under new Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act.
