Increased trend among rural women entrepreneurs in sugarcane nursery for self-employment

Lucknow: Commissioner, Cane and Sugar Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy has directed the officers of Cane producing districts of the state to train the rural women entrepreneurs for preparing sugarcane seedlings to make them self-reliant. These women are preparing the sugarcane nursery at the village level through single bud and bud chip method and by earning income they are becoming self-dependent.

Giving detailed information in this regard, the Cane Commissioner, Shri Bhoosreddy said that there are immense possibilities of employment in sugarcane dominated areas, in view of this, Self-help groups of rural women entrepreneurs have been trained and encouraged to prepare sugarcane nurseries through single bud and bud chip for giving them employment.

Self-help groups of women entrepreneurs were trained under this scheme in 36 districts of the state. So far, 6682 rural women entrepreneurs of 714 women self-help groups have been trained through 681 training sessions by the Cane Development Department to prepare nurseries for distribution of seeding and 31,30,151 seedlings have been set up by rural women entrepreneurs, and 1,02,000 seedlings have been distributed to sugarcane farmers. According to the provisions of NFSM, a subsidy of Rs.1.50 per seedling will be paid to them.

Cane Commissioner also informed that due to the employment options availability, the morale of women entrepreneurs will be high and income generation will improve their standard of living.
