India reports 6 cases of new Covid-19 strain as UK returnees test positive

Six new cases of a mutant strain of Covid-19 have been found in India that were reported in the United Kingdom a few days ago. The virus is 70 per cent more transmissible than normal Covid-19 virus.

All six patients had recently visited Britain. Out of these six patients, three samples were tested positive in NIMHANS of Bengaluru, two in CCMB, Hyderabad and one in NIV, Pune.

All the patients have been kept in isolation in single rooms in the health care facilities of the respective states in the country. Those who have come in close contact with the infected patients have been put under quarantine.

The Health Ministry has issued a statement stating that the situation is under control and all are advised to increase surveillance to keep a check on the spread of the disease.
