India’s NSI to assist Indonesian sugar factories to boost their production

Kanpur: A delegation of the institute under the leadership of Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director shall visit Indonesia next month to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with M/s Politeknic Perkebunan LLP, Yogyankarta, Indonesia for jointly conducting training programmes for technical staff of Indonesian Sugar Factories and to carryout research work on areas of mutual interest. Upon request from M/s Politeknic Perkebunan LLP, Yogyankarta, Indonesia, approval for signing the MoU has already been accorded by the Government of India.

Indonesia is a sugar deficient country and the working of the existing sugar factories is much below the benchmark. “Man sitting behind the machine is equally important” and thus the aim of this MoU is to enhance the knowledge levels of the in-service personnel and to make them aware about standard operating procedures, latest processing techniques and energy efficient equipment, said Prof. Narendra Mohan. We will also educate them about the importance of utilization of by-products in proper manner so as to enhance revenues, he added.

During the visit, the institute delegation shall visit few sugar factories also to get first hand information about the status of sugar units and knowledge levels of working staff and accordingly training programmes shall be formulated.

Looking to the scarcity of the qualified manpower in Indonesian Sugar Factories, proposed visit is also expected to open new doors of employment for the Indian students, particularly from Sugar Engineering, Sugar Technology, Instrumentation and Environment Science backgrounds. Several such alumni of the institute have already taken up assignments there at very attractive pay packages. We are confident to create a “Brand India” image in the Indonesian Sugar Industry said Director, National Sugar Institute.
