Karnal: Farmers stage protest demanding payment of pending cane dues

Karnal: Hundreds of sugarcane farmers organised a protest at the Karnal co-operative sugar mill over the delay in the payment of cane dues, reports Hindustan Times.

The protesters handed over a memorandum of their demand to the managing director of the sugar mill Dr Pooja Bharti. The MD has assured them stating that efforts will be taken to ensure that the payments are cleared at the earliest.

Farmers also protested outside the SDM office, Indri demanding the clearing of pending cane dues of farmers by the Piccadilly sugar mill located in Bhadson. The agitating farmers handed over a memorandum to the SDM and put forward their demands.

The sugar mill must clear cane dues of farmers within 14 days of crushing their cane but the mill is not following the rule and farmers have to wait for their dues, said Surinder Singh, district president of the BKU.
