Karnataka: Farmer leader asks government to direct sugar mills to immediately clear pending dues

Dharwad: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the state sugarcane growers association have asked the government to ensure sugar mills clear pending cane dues, reports The Times of India.

Association president Kuruburu Shanthkumar said that the farmers have sold around 5.80 crore metric tonnes of sugarcane and the mills owe dues worth Rs 4000 crore to them. The state government should immediately ask the mills to clear pending cane dues.

He warned that if the government fails to act on time then farmers will start agitation.

“Farmers are trying their best to grow crops amid all the odds and they expect to get their return in time,” Shanthkumar further added.
