Karnataka: Farmers’ organisation demand higher sugarcane price

Bengaluru: Rajya Raitha Sangha, a farmers’ organisation in Karnataka launched a ‘Payfarmer’ campaign on Monday demanding adequate prices for sugarcane, reports The New Indian Express.

The posters created by the Darshan faction of KRRS read ‘Payfarmer accepted here, Rs 4,500 per tonne for sugarcane’.

“Our campaign is in the interest of farmers. We demand Fair Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane, which is between Rs 2,500 and Rs 2,800 per tonne in Karnataka, and Rs 3,500 in Uttar Pradesh,” Darshan Puttannaiah, former MLA and son of KRRS leader K S Puttannaiah was quoted as saying to TNIE.

The posters were pasted on the KSRTC buses in Mandya to spread awareness among people in the state.

Raitha Sangha leader Kuruburu Shanthakumar said, “The FRP in the state is RS 3,050 per tonne and the government should hike it to at least Rs. 3,500 per tonne.”
