Karnataka: Mysugar to start sugarcane crushing operations from June, says minister

Mysuru: State-owned Mysore Sugar Company, commonly known as Mysugar, is gearing up to commence its crushing operations for the 2024-25 season in June, following a crushing of 2.41 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and 1.68 lakh quintals of sugar production during the 2023-24 season, announced Minister for Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy, reported The Hindu.

During a meeting in Mandya on Thursday addressing the crushing operations, Minister Cheluvarayaswamy stated that Mysugar had already inked an agreement with farmers for the crushing of 1.55 lakh metric tonnes. However, the State-owned sugar company aspires to crush a total of 4 lakh metric tonnes of sugar in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

In the previous season, Mysugar not only produced 1.68 lakh quintals of sugar but also generated 15,741 tonnes of molasses and 68,680 tonnes of bagasse. Additionally, the company generated 12, 21,000 units of electricity since the turbine’s initiation on September 15, 2023, selling 4,93,200 units while utilizing 7, 27,800 units for sugarcane crushing. Officials confirmed the settlement of ₹5 crore owed to Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company for power.
