Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers demand hike in FRP for the season 2021-22

Mysore: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association have demanded from the government to fix FRP for sugarcane at Rs 3200 per tonne.

Sugarcane farmers claim that sugarcane FRP is not enough to meet their production cost.

According to the news report published in starofmysore.com, Association members urged the State Government to set up a committee headed by a retired High Court Judge to probe into the allegations of land grabbing in city.

The farmers also asked the government to fix the FRP at Rs 3200 per tonne for the year 2021-22.

In Karnataka, all the operating mills had closed their main crushing season by 15th April, 2021 and have produced 41.67 lakh tonnes of sugar as compared to 33.80 lakh tonnes produced last year same period. However, one mill in South Karnataka has commenced its operation for special season. Last year during the special season, Karnataka mills had produced 1.14 lakh tonnes of sugar.
