Requesting the government to stop consultation over the leasing the sugar mills, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi said that instead, the government should speed up the process of leasing mills to private investors.
Addressing people in Ugunja town in Siaya Country, the MP who is also chairman of Public Accounts Committee in Parliament said, “Let the factories run by those having the capacity to do so and extending the time for consultation on the issue will make our task difficult.”
He said that the leaders in the western part of the country have agitated for so long for the revamping of the sugar sub-sector and now that the government has come up with a good option, it was prudent that local leaders support it.
