Kenya: Leasing ailing sugar factories will be good for industry, says government

The government’s decision to lease the sugar mills is in the interest of the sugarcane farmers and the politicians should not play politics around the issue, said Peter Munya, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary.

He said, “The people from the sugar-growing zones and farmers should come forward in support of our decision as leasing the ailing sugar mill will benefit them.”

Speaking at Nzoia sugar mill’s guest house in Kanduyi Constituency, he attacked those playing politics with the issue. Munya said, “Those who are opposing the government’s decision of leasing out the mills are enemies of development.”
