Kenya: Ministry of Agriculture to reclaim 10,000 acres of land fraudulently acquired from Miwani Sugar Factory

The Kenya government is recovering the 10,000-acre land that was acquired by Crossley Limited from Miwani Sugar Factory.

According to the media reports, Agriculture principal secretary Hamadi Boga informed the Kenya Parliament that the Ministry of Agriculture has been directed by the Ministry of Lands to immediately lodge original title with the supporting documents. It will lead to the cancellation of the provisional title issued to Crossley Holdings Limited and pave way for the Transfer of the land to Miwani Sugar Factory.

The result comes after the meeting between the Ministry of Agriculture Legal Team, Miwani Sugar Joint Receiver Manager Francis Ooko and Francis Muraguri, Lands Principal. They had discussed the issue on September 30 this year that resolved to acquire the grabbed Miwani Sugar company land.

The issue was also raised in the Parliament last week. It was alleged that the Ministry of lands was not taking steps to recover the land grabbed by the company.
