Kenya: Senators demand to halt state sugar firms lease

Kenya’s Senate Committee on Agriculture has urged the government to halt the process of leasing the five state-owned sugar mills to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to participate in the process. Many potential stakeholders have been sidelined in the process which is not in accordance with the law.

According to the media report, Enoch Wambua, Kitui Senator after holding a meeting with the farmers at Chemelil said that there are irregularities in the leasing out the mills and not according to the constitutional provisions.
