Maharashtra government to take special initiative to revive and restructure sugar mills

Nagpur: Minister Jayant Patil informed the Legislative Council on Friday that the government is taking steps to revive and restructure the sugar mills in the state.

He was replying to a calling attention motion raised by Sada Khot, former agriculture minister, over the delay in payment of FRP to farmers in the last two years although the rule makes it mandatory to pay the amount in 15 days.

Patil said that the government is taking steps to ensure that sugar mills pay cane growers on time. He also praised the state sugar commissioner for doing the commendable job to recover pending dues and initiate action against defaulter mills.

Patil informed that around 1557 crore FRP amount was to be recovered from sugar mills. Sugar commissioner has recovered Rs 1,305 crore from them. Work on the pending amount is going on.
