The ongoing sugarcane crushing season has witnessed more sugar mills in the private sector operating in Maharashtra as compared to the mills in the cooperative sector.
According to the data released by the sugarcane commissionerate, till January 13, 2022, a total of 192 sugar mills are operating in Maharashtra which includes 97 private and 95 cooperative mills. They produced 574.83 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 582 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 9.88 per cent.
Kolhapur division is leading in the state in terms of sugar output by producing 156.92 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 139.71 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.23 per cent.
In the Pune division, a total of 29 sugar mills have participated in the cane crushing operations. The mills have produced 119.59 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 118.84 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.6 per cent.
