Maharashtra so far produces 171.14 lakh quintal sugar

Pune: The sugarcane crushing season is in full swing in Maharashtra. According to the sugar commissionerate report, as on 2 December 2020, 159 sugar mills were in operation. And by crushing 195.77 lakh tonne sugarcane mills produced 171.14 lakh quintal sugar. As of now, the average sugar recovery in the state is 8.74 per cent.

The maximum number of 33 sugar mills are in operation from Kolhapur region. Whereas, not a single mill has commenced operation in the Nagpur region.

Maharashtra has also performed well in clearing the cane dues as compared to other sugar-producing states.
