Maharashtra: Sugarcane farmers booked for protesting

Aurangabad: Police has registered a case against around 150 sugarcane farmers for ‘unlawful assembly’. The farmers were protesting outside the office of sugar department’s regional assistant director in Aurangabad for their several demands including the release of the funds that have been deposited in the sugar cooperative mill’s bank accounts.

Large gatherings are not permitted in the district in the wake of the COVID-19 situation. According to the media report, majority of the protesting farmers were from Gangapur and Lasur areas of the district. The farmers were demanding the release of their money that has been deposited in the bank account of the cooperative sugar factory bank.

A case has been registered against farmers at Kranti Chowk police station under several sections of IPC.
