Maharashtra: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana to hold 22nd sugarcane convention on November 7

Kolhapur (Maharashtra): Raju Shetty, the national president of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) and former Member of Parliament, announced on Monday that the 22nd Sugarcane Convention (Uss Parishad) will take place on November 7 in the town of Jaysingpur in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district.

During a media briefing, Shetty stated that the primary objective of the convention is to determine the initial instalment of the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane for the upcoming crushing season.

As part of their protest against the failure of sugar mills to disburse the pending second instalment of Rs 400 per tonne for sugarcane supplied during the previous year’s crushing season, a ‘Padyatra’ is set to commence on October 17. This march will traverse to the residences of the said factory owners. The agitation will end on November 7 at the place of the sugarcane convention in Jaysingpur.
