Mandya: Units to focus on producing export quality jaggery

Jaggery producers in Mandya are focusing on manufacturing chemical-free and export quality jaggery. The farmers will be encouraged under the “One District One Product” scheme to produce chemical-free jaggery using the latest technology.

A meeting to discuss the issue was attended by the Minister in charge of Mandya district Narayana Gowda, Cooperation S T Somashekar and Mandya MP Sumalatha and district administration officials on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the officials stated that the production of jaggery without using chemicals will help farmers to improve their income by exporting the commodity. The scheme that has chosen jaggery as the product from Mandya is expected to support units.

According to the news report published in Thehindu.com, Sumalatha said organic jaggery from Mandya is yet to be branded. This needs promotion and marketing. If Mandya jaggery makers want more price, it should be export quality. Committees set up for improving the quality and production can look into these issues.
