Meerut: Farmers protest against sugar mill for unpaid dues

Meerut: Farmers in Meerut district staged a protest on Friday against the Kinauni Sugar Mill for failing to pay sugarcane dues for the previous season, according to livehindustan.

The farmers, led by Maliana Sugar Committee Chairman Bijender Pradhan, gathered at the Sugarcane Bhavan in Pandav Nagar and surrounded Deputy Cane Commissioner Rajesh Mishra and District Cane Officer Dr. Dushyant Kumar.

Pradhan said that the Kinauni Sugar Mill has not been paying farmers on time for the past many years. The mill still owes farmers over Rs 300 crore.

“The farmers are suffering because of the non-payment of dues,” Pradhan said. “The new sugarcane season is about to start, but the mill has not paid for the previous season.”

The farmers submitted a seven-point memorandum to the Cane Commissioner, demanding that sugarcane security meetings be held at the divisional level, that the Kinauni mill’s centers be transferred to a mill that pays farmers on time, and that interest be paid on late sugarcane dues.
