Mexico: Sugar production declines in Veracruz

Mexico’s Veracruz state witnessed a fall in sugar production to 1.88 million metric tonnes during the 2019-20 crushing season. According to the media report, the drought season in the state has impacted the sugarcane production which resulted in the dip in the sugar output.
The mills from the state have crushed 18.4 million tonnes of sugarcane for the 2019-20 seasons.

According to Angel Gomez Tapia, president of local sugarcane growers association CNPR, the harvested area reached 325,723 hectares, or 40.4% of the total sugarcane harvested area in Mexico.
