Pune, Maharashtra: Majority of the sugar mills in Maharashtra have started the crushing operations. Till December 28, 178 mills were engaged in sugarcane crushing and produced 374.67 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 397.09 lakh tonne sugarcane. The state has recorded an average sugar recovery of 9.44 per cent.
As of now, Solapur division is leading in the state with 38 sugar mills in operation. Whereas in Kolhapur division, 37 sugar mills started cane crushing and produced 100.48 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 91.53 lakh tonne sugarcane. Kolhapur division has recorded sugar recovery at 11 per cent in the current season.
