Minister Piyush Goyal asks sugar industry stakeholders to educate farmers about the benefit of new farm laws

Pune: Educate the 5.25 crore people associated with the sugar industry about the benefits of new farm laws and how they open new opportunities for farmers, said Union food minister Piyush Goyal.

He was speaking at the 86th annual general meeting of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA). Stating that the fair and remunerative price (FRP) of sugarcane cannot be reduced further, he said the government also cannot increase the minimum selling price (MSP) of sugar.

Minister asked the industry to become competitive, not to produce surplus sugar and come to the government asking for support when the surplus sugar depressed prices. He said the time has come for the millers to reduce their dependence on government subsidy.
