Monsoon likely to arrive in India on June 1

The onset of Monsoon in India is likely to begin from 1st June and the country is likely to receive average rainfall this year, said the weather office of India.

This has raised the expectations of higher farm output which will boost the country’s economy.

The four-month monsoon is likely to arrive on the southern coast around June 1, like every year, said a senior government official.

Madhavan Rajeevan, secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences said in a tweet, “Monsoon 2021 update: @Indiametdept Extended Range Forecast suggests monsoon will arrive over Kerala on time, around 1 June. This is an early indication. @Indiametdept official monsoon forecast on 15 May & rainfall forecast update around 31 May.”

Rainfall helps to irrigate around half of the country’s agricultural sector which depends on rainfall. The crops like sugarcane, rice, corn, cotton and soybeans are grown in these farms.
