Abinash Verma, director general of Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) said that the sugar export was not impacted due to the earlier two waves of Covid-19 and this time also it won’t create any problem in achieving the set target of exporting sugar.
The heavy flooding in the region has already destroyed more than 30% of the sugarcane. GuySuCo is trying to produce quality sugar by crushing available cane in the country. The cane crop waterlogged for more than 65 days has resulted in the poor yields.
Apart from this the Sugarcane department has put restrictions on the Kinauni sugar mill to sell sugar as the mill has not cleared the pending cane dues to the farmers for the 2020-21 crushing season. The mill can crush sugarcane but not sell sugar in the market, according to the department.
Former legislator and election wing secretary of the party Vayyapuri Manikandan issued a statement on Friday stating that the farmers are forced to sell their cane to a private sugar mill at Nillikuppam in Cuddalore after closure of a sugar mill in Puducherry.
