Nepal: Sugar mills fail to clear cane dues will be arrested, says Minister

Kathmandu, Nepal: Assuring the agitating sugarcane farmers, Lekhraj Bhatta, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies said that the owners of the sugar mills failed to clear cane dues will be arrested. He said, “We will issue a circular to the home ministry to take action against them.”

He was assuring the sugarcane farmers that were agitating for their pending dues.

The farmers under the leadership of Rakesh Kumar Mishra, patron of the Sugarcane Farmers Struggle Committee, Sarlahi, visited the minister’s office in Singha Durbar and shared their grievances. They submitted the memorandum of their demands and asked for the written assurance from the government. They stated that the government’s earlier commitment of clearing dues by January has not been fulfilled yet.

Farmers have given an ultimatum of December 12 to the government to take action on their demand. The Minister has assured them that the government will take the appropriate action against the millers and ensure that they clear the pending dues to the farmers.
