Nothing new in government’s decision on Sanjivani sugar factory: Former Minister

Margoa, Goa: Former Agriculture Minister and President of Goa Forward Party Vijay Sardesai welcomed the state government’s decision of transferring the administration of the Sanjivani sugar factory to the Agriculture Department. But objected saying CM Pramod Sawant shouldn’t say it is his decision.

Sardesai said, “This is the old decision taken on February 18, 2019, when I was the agriculture minister. That was the last cabinet meeting chaired by former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar at his residence. It’s an attempt to package old wine in a new bottle.”

He questioned the delay of 19 months in going ahead with the decision. CM Sawant, on Tuesday, assured the cane farmers that the government will not shut the factory and is finding options for its revival. He also directed the sugarcane cultivators to continue growing cane. The factory had stopped operations from the last two years due to heavy financial losses.
