Over pending payment from sugarcane department, sugar mill stops clearance of cane dues

Roorkee: The Liberheri Sugar mill has stopped payment of pending arrears worth Rs 50 crore citing that the sugarcane department has not paid mill Rs 1.25 crore.

Over the pending dues, the farmers had launched an agitation, following which mill agreed to pay all dues by September 30. The deadline was however extended to October 4 and later to October 10. Now farmers are awaiting the response from the mill that when dues would be transferred into their bank account.

According to the mill administration, the sugarcane department had promised to pay Rs 1.25 crore to the mill which was due with them but has not paid yet. It would have been easy for the mill to pay farmers after receiving the amount.

Shailendra Singh, sugarcane assistant commissioner, said, “The department had paid money to mill through RTGS but could not complete process as the server was down. We have written the concerned bank about it and will resolve the issue soon.”
