Pakistan: 2,507 complaints against sugar mills

Lahore, Pakistan: Based on the complaints of the sugarcane farmers, Pakistan’s Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) will initiate action against 44 sugar mills in the province over underpricing and under weighed of sugarcane. As many as 2507 farmers have complained to the ACE against the sugar mills in this regard.

According to the www.thenews.com.pk, Abdul Salam Arif, ACE Director Vigilance said that the department has received 1,363 complaints of farmers stating that they have received less amount than the support price fixed by the government, 641 farmers have not been paid any amount and 503 farmers made a complaint of illegal weight deduction.

An inquiry commission set up by Prime Minister Imran Khan had suggested that the sugar mills conduct a series of misdeeds to exploit farmers. However, the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has rejected the outcome of the commission.
