Pakistan: Cane commissioner warns action against sugar mills for not clearing cane dues

Lahore: The government has warned the sugar millers of initiating action against them if they fail to clear the cane dues of the sugarcane farmers for the on-going crushing season.

Muhammad Zaman Wattoo, Cane Commissioner, Punjab has stated that strict action will be initiated against the defaulting sugar millers for not paying cane dues and failing to provide a certificate of clearance of sugarcane dues to his office by February 26, 2001.

His office has issued notices to several sugar mills including M/s Al-Moiz-II sugar Mills Limited (Mianwali), Al-Arabia Sugar Mills (Sargodha), Darya Khan Sugar Mills Limited (Bhakkar), Fatima Sugar Mills Limited (Muzaffargarh), Etihad Sugar Mills Limited (Rahim Yar Khan) and other mills asking them to clear all the pending cane dues of farmers as per the Punjab Sugar Factories (Control) Rules, 1950.

As per the notice, the mills have been asked to submit the clearance certificate by email or courier by February 26 else they have to face action.
