Pakistan: Crushing season will start from next month

Islamabad: Sugarcane crushing in Pakistan’s Punjab and Sindh region will start from next month. The officials have warned of imposing penalties if they fail to start operations within time.

Officials have informed to the National Price Monitoring Committee that sugarcane crushing would start from the first week of November in Punjab. The crushing would start in mid-November in Sindh.

The meeting also discussed the importation of 151,700 tonnes of sugar by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP). To meet the domestic need, the government has given a permit for sugar importation. The Provincial governments are asked to monitor sugar availability and to ensure it is available at an affordable rate for consumers.
